Orofacial Pain Management
What is Orofacial Pain Management?
We provide care to patients with TMJ (temporomandibular joint), jaw, head, and/or neck pain disorders, including clicking, locking of the TMJ, difficulty using the jaw and atypical toothaches. We also provide care for sleep-related breathing disorders, including sleep apnea and snoring.
What else is included in OFP?
- TMJ pain, or disorder such as joint clicking/popping and locking
- Facial muscle pain
- Myofascial Pain Disorder
- Headaches; such as migraine, tension headaches, OSA related headache, or headache attributed to TMD
- Burning Mouth Syndrome
- Trigeminal Autonomic Cephalalgia such as Cluster Headaches
- Occipital Neuralgia (classified under Cervicogenic Headaches) where there is a convergence of upper cervical and trigeminal afferents
- Sleep disorders such as Awake and Sleep Bruxism, and Obstructive sleep apnea

Orofacial Pain is a very unique specialty with few board certified providers in the world. I lecture nationally and internationally about Orofacial Pain. My mission is to create awareness about this specialty, and increase access to care for patients suffering from chronic pain and sleep disorders.
There is a difference between an Orofacial Pain specialist dentist and a general dentist with some experience in “TMJ”. There is nothing called a “TMJ dentist” anymore. Orofacial pain bridges the gap between medicine and dentistry.
